Qld: 23,000 still without power in Townsville
About 23,000 homes remain without power today because of damaged caused by Cyclone
TESSI in north Queensland.
Crews from power supplier, Ergon Energy, have worked around the clock to restore power
after Tessi crossed the coast near Townsville yesterday morning.
The cyclone caused widespread destruction to homes, buildings and powerlines.
Am Ergon spokesman says up to 50,000 homes were without power yesterday and the company
had worked quickly to return power to more than half of those homes.
He says extra staff from Cairns and Mackay were also brought in to help deal with the repairs.
Ergon had received calls from 9,000 customers in the past 24 hours that had helped
the company pinpoint problems areas.
The spokesman says damage was mainly kept to Townsville suburbs.
